Before everything – I have NEVER been to a Speed Dating session. It’s not big in Argentina, Brazil or in Austria. So I never had the possibility of giving it a try. But after dozens of emails asking me about it, I researched and wrote this short article to give you a hand.
I’ll appreciate if anyone with experience leaves a comment below. A real testimony will always add a lot of value.
So – What is Speed Dating?
As the name suggests, speed dating is an event where men and women meet in big numbers and for the purpose of finding a match in the shortest time possible. Once you join the meeting, you’ll have the chance to interact one-on-one with many different girls for a brief period of time, usually around three to eight minutes.
The events last for a while, ensuring that you’ll have the chance to speak and introduce yourself to many new girls. Once the round is over, you’ll move to the next girl, no matter how much you are enjoying the interaction. This is meant to offer all participants a wider choice and to increase their chances of finding someone.
At the end of the event every participant submits a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there’s a match, the organization forwards this information to both parties.
In a speed dating event, no contacts are exchanged directly, to avoid face-to-face rejection. Arguing is prohibited and an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment is encouraged.
Sounds fun to me.
The People At Speed Dating
I don’t know how creepy people can be there – but if it’s like I see in the movies, looks there’s some fine people around. In fact, friends have told me that it’s mainly nice, attractive but busy people who and don’t have time for traditional dating. In short – people who want to meet a compatible someone without wasting time.
Some organizers also offer niche events, targeted at graduates, older men with younger women, ethnic and religious groups, art lovers, etc. I find this quite spectacular.
Is It Worth It?
I would definitely give it a try. Speed is the most obvious advantage. You’ll have the chance to meet a wide variety of girls and, best, all looking to find a mate. Unlike a club or bar, girls will be there strictly to see if they can meet someone.
Critics say you have too little time to speak, but I believe that with five minutes it’s enough to leave a lasting impression on someone. If you have a well-tuned pitch, it’s an opportunity you can’t lose.
